January Winter Registration

Starting in January we have a beginner classes for the 5-8 year olds on Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30, 9-14 year olds on Wednesdays from 6-7pm and 13-adults on Wednesdays from 7-8pm.

3rd Annual Grand Open

Come celebrate the MSFC‘s third anniversary at our Annual Grand Open, scheduled for February 20th and 21st of 2010! There will be Open Sabre, Foil and Epee events, as well as youth sabre events. As is tradition, the club will host a gala final for the open sabre on Saturday night, followed by a reception. Both the final and the reception are open to the public, and the festivities start at 5:30PM. This event is part of the North Carolina points series, as well as a Junior Progressive Series event.

Mid-South Supporting Justin’s Walk

Sunday, October 4th, several Mid-South Fencers and friends of Mid-South Fencer Justin Katz participated in a 5k walk to benefit melanoma research as part of Justin’s Mitzvah project. Justin’s Mitzvah Project, part of his Bar Mitzvah, was a charity project he chose to benefit the community. The walk was to raise money for the Melanoma Research Foundation, an organization that funds Melanoma research and educates the public about ways to prevent Melanoma.

MSFC at the VA Kickoff

The club had a great weekend at the Virgina Division’s Kickoff Open. Three MSFC fencers made the finalin the Mixed Open Sabre, and the club had two finalists in the Women’s Open Sabre.

The Women’s event saw Joey Lew as the top club finisher, in 6th place, with Kaitlin Chrenshaw in 8th, and Claire Carson in 10th. The Mixed event saw Matt Cox as the eventual winner, with Jordan Benge tied for third, and Mason Erb in 7th place. Travis Clarkson finished 14th, James Dobbins was 19th, and Claire Carson was 22nd. Kaitlin Crenshaw was 35th.

It was a great weekend of fencing, teamwork, and camaraderie, with great results. The group’s collective hard work showed strong- the tournament was a great start to a great season.

Another National Finalist!

Travis Clarkson on the Div III MS Medal StandThe NC Division is home to another National Finalist! Mid-South’s Travis Clarkson came in 7th place, to become the fourth North Carolina National finalist of the year. Travis started the day 4-1 out of the pools, and progressed quickly through the field to Final. Travis lost in the quarterfinal, but had already won the right to represent North Carolina on the medal stand later in the afternoon. [...]
