We do have a small pro-shop in our lobby with a few items.  Fencers are not required to have their names stenciled on their lamés at regional tournaments.

Armory control will be open at the following times:

Saturday 11/2 Sunday 11/3
Noon- End of final event 8:00am- End of final event

Tournament Etiquette

We are expecting over 100 registrations and their families; our space will be pushed to capacity. We have limited balcony seating for parent viewing that can reasonably hold 30-40 persons (capacity is 70 persons). Only athletes, referees and coaches will be allowed on the fencing floor during peak times. We will at times have some designated seating for parents on the main floor. Please respect the club’s equipment and community member areas. If you need something, please ask. If your child has finished fencing, please create space for other families to watch their children.

Please review our Spectator Agreement for more information about our community standards.

Coaching Credentials

To ensure the safety and efficiency of our tournament operations, Mid-South Fencers’ Club has enacted a coaching credential program this season.¬† Coaches should check in at our Front Desk to obtain credentials, and discuss any questions about our Spectator Agreement with our staff.¬† Coaches who have already obtained official USA Fencing Coach Credentials are invited to wear those during the competition as well as follow our community guidelines.

Photos and Video Etiquette

Photos and video are great! Video can be an excellent training tool, but mostly is a fun way to see your fencer evolve over time.  Please refrain from using a flash during competition. Pictures will be posted on our Facebook Fan Page. Our hashtag for this event is #BullCityRYC.

Awards will be given for the top 8 finishes in each event. If you need to leave before awards are given out, please let us know so we can distribute your medal. Award ceremonies will take place near the lobby. A Mid-South member and local craftsman has created one of a kind first place prizes for this event!

Local Restaurants offering Discounts to Fencing Families

Three local restaurants, located on Main street, are offering 10% discounts off of food for our fencing families. Maverick’s Smokehouse, The Federal, and James Joyce Irish Pub, are all located on the 900 block of West Main Street, a one block walk from the fencing club.¬† Please let your servers there know you are with the Fencing Tournament to receive your discounts.

Problems and Feedback

If you have a problem or concern, please make it known to one of our front desk staff, or to the bout committee. We want to ensure safety and create a space for a positive tournament experience for everyone involved. We reserve the right to ask anyone to leave if displaying unsportsmanlike behavior or unwillingness to follow our community standards.

About Mid-South Fencers’ Club & The Bull City Saber RYC

Mid-South Fencers’ Club moved into our first space in downtown Durham, NC in 2008. We moved into our current location on the corner of Morgan and Gregson in the fall of 2013.

On behalf of everyone at Mid-South Fencers’ Club, we would like to thank everyone for supporting our second annual Bull City Sabre RYC.¬† Durham is known as the Bull City, and you can see the bull motif throughout our great city from our club logo to our world famous Durham Bulls Baseball team. We launched the Bull City Saber RYC in 2018 to support the growth of youth competitive saber, coaching, and officiating in Region 6.

In 2019, Mid-South is led by three full-time and five part-time staff backed by the highest credentials in the United States. Mid-South’s focus has been on creating a fencing home for all levels of fencers from beginners to competitors with collegiate, national, or international aspirations in all three weapons. The Bull City RYC is the first RYC to honor the city of Durham.
